Jakarta. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo will engage in discussions on global peace with Pope Francis during the Papal visit to Indonesia from Sept. 4 to 6.

“Primarily, we will focus on peace. It’s crucial for us to address these issues with him,” President Jokowi said in Tasikmalaya, West Java, on Thursday.

The talks will address ongoing conflicts such as the Russia-Ukraine war and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

“We aim to address peace in all conflict zones, including Gaza, Ukraine, and other smaller ongoing conflicts worldwide,” Jokowi added.

A state reception will be held to honor Pope Francis’s visit, reflecting the highest respect for his roles as both a head of state and the global Catholic Church leader, a presidential aide confirmed on Monday.

On the third day of his visit, Pope Francis will celebrate a mass at Bung Karno Stadium, with approximately 90,000 Catholic faithful expected to attend.

In addition to the mass, Pope Francis will participate in several significant events, including a meeting with the Grand Imam of the Istiqlal Mosque and a visit to Katedral Church.

The Pope’s visit to Indonesia is part of a broader regional tour, which includes stops in Singapore, Papua New Guinea, and Timor-Leste. His visit will emphasize world peace and unity, according to Father Thomas Ulun Ismoyo, spokesperson for the Indonesian organizing committee.

Pope Francis will also meet with interfaith leaders to promote religious tolerance during his visit.

Previously, Indonesia welcomed Pope Paul VI in 1970 and Pope John Paul II in 1989. Pope Francis will be the third pope to visit Indonesia.
