Japan Open 2025: Jojo and Gregoria Eliminated Early, Rehan/Gloria Progress to Last 16
Jakarta. Indonesia’s two singles representatives, Jonatan "Jojo" Christie and Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, suffered an early exit in the first round of the Japan Open 2025, held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium in Tokyo, Japan, on Tuesday.
Jojo was defeated by Japanese men’s singles player Kenta Nishimoto in straight games. He lost with a score of 13–21, 12–21 after a 45-minute match.
Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, the top Indonesian women’s singles player, was also stopped in the round of 32 after losing to Riko Gunji of Japan. Gregoria lost in straight games with a score of 10–21, 11–21 in a 35-minute match.
Meanwhile, Indonesia recorded positive results in the mixed doubles. The pair Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja advanced to the round of 16 after defeating the Taiwanese duo Yang Po Hsuan/Hu Ling Fang. Rehan and Gloria won in straight games, 21–10, 21–15, in 40 minutes. In the next round, they will face the winner of the match between Tang Chun Man/Tse Ying Suet (Hong Kong) and Zhu Yi Jun/Bao Li Jing (China).
Another Indonesian mixed doubles pair, Adnan Maulana/Nita Violina Marwah, also claimed victory. They overcame the Chinese duo Zang Cheng Xing/Zhang Chi with a score of 21–10, 21–19 in 42 minutes.
In the round of 16, Adnan/Nita are scheduled to face the Japanese pair Hiroki Midorikawa/Natsu Saito, who previously defeated fellow Japanese pair Tuta Watanabe/Hina Osawa in a three-game battle: 21–19, 21–23, 21–14.
