Tangerang. The Indonesian Basketball Association (Perbasi) has recruited a 12-year-old elementary school student from Jambi province to join the national training camp as a potential future star player.

Sagil Muhammad Rizky stands at an impressive 197 centimeters despite his young age, with a European shoe size of 50.5.

"We see great potential in him, so Perbasi recruited the boy to join our training to become a national team athlete,” Perbasi Chairman Danny Kosasih said at a news conference in Tangerang on Thursday.

Sagil was flown to Jakarta from his hometown of Kerinci and will be entrusted to the local club Aras Gading Muda to develop his playing skills before joining the national training camp.

The club is renowned for producing exceptional basketball players from a young age and recently won the U-17 club championship in Bogor, Danny noted.

The towering young athlete quickly caught the attention of Murni Setionegoro, the manager of the men’s U-18 national team.

“We certainly hope that Sagil will eventually become our key player in every competition the Indonesian national team participates in,” Murni said.

Sagil attended the news conference accompanied by his mother, Susi Herlina.

“I will do my best to bring pride to Indonesia through basketball,” Sagil said.
