Jakarta. A heavy rain spell during Thursday afternoon's rush hour caused floods in various areas in Jakarta, including the upscale residential complex in Kemang.

The downpour resulted in knee-high water submerging Kemang Raya Street and a nearby park, leading to traffic blockages and a line of stranded vehicles. Numerous motorcycles encountered breakdowns while attempting to navigate through the flooded streets.

The recurrent flooding in Kemang is attributed to inadequate drainage systems coupled with its close proximity to the Krukut River.

In Mampang Prapatan, South Jakarta, a housing complex also faced inundation shortly after the rainfall began at around 2 p.m. The water level in the Pondok Karya housing complex rose to approximately half a meter.

Meanwhile, in Kalideres, West Jakarta, flooding from the rain and excessive water from the nearby Semongol River disrupted traffic flow along Manyar Street.

According to the city’s Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), the affected areas encompassed only five distinct neighborhoods and six main roads, predominantly in South Jakarta.
