Jakarta. An Iraqi national, Rashad Fouad Tareq Jameel, faces a potential life sentence for the murder of 36-year-old Dwhinta Anggary, the granddaughter of the late Indonesian comedian Mpok Nori. Her body was discovered at a rented house in Cipayung, East Jakarta, on Saturday, March 21.

Jakarta Metro Police Public Relations Head Budi Hermanto said the suspect is charged under Article 458, Paragraph (3) of Law No. 1 of 2023, covering murder accompanied by another criminal act.

“The penalty is life imprisonment or a maximum of 20 years in prison,” Budi said, as reported by Antara on Wednesday.

Additionally, Jameel faces a subsidiary charge under Article 468, Paragraph (2) of the same law, relating to grievous assault. This carries a maximum 10-year prison term if the assault results in death.

Jameel was arrested by the police on Saturday at the Km 68 rest area on the Tangerang-Merak Toll Road. He was apprehended on a bus while attempting to flee following the killing.

Police said the case stemmed from a marital dispute fueled by jealousy between the suspect and the victim.

Resa Fiardi Marasabessy, Head of the Mobile Criminal Investigation Unit at Metro Jaya Police, outlined the incident. The victim was found dead on the floor of the rented house at around 4:30 a.m.

According to witnesses, the victim’s mother, identified as B, discovered the locked door from outside around 3:00 a.m. and called for help. The victim’s older brother, identified as A, assisted in entering the house, where they found Dwhinta’s body with dried blood on the floor and mattress.
