Jakarta. The General Election Commission (KPU) has officially announced the simultaneous regional elections (Pilkada) for 2024 will take place on Nov. 27, 2024.

This decision is outlined in KPU Regulation (PKPU) Number 2/2024 on the Stages and Schedule of the Election of Governors, Deputy Governors, Regents, Deputy Regents, as well as Deputy Mayors and Deputy City Mayors in 2024. The regulation was signed by the Chairman of KPU, Hasyim Asy'ari, on Jan. 26, 2024.

The upcoming regional elections are set to be held simultaneously for areas where the terms of local leaders conclude in 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025. The 2024 simultaneous regional elections system marks the fifth occurrence of such events in Indonesia.

A total of 545 regions will participate in the simultaneous regional elections in 2024, comprising 37 provinces, 415 regencies, and 93 cities.

According to the regulation, the registration of candidate pairs will be conducted from Aug. 27 to 29, 2024. The announcement and confirmation of candidate pairs are set for Sept. 22, 2024.

Furthermore, the campaigning period for the 2024 regional elections will span 60 days, running from Sept. 25 to Nov. 23, 2024. The actual voting will then take place on Nov. 27, 2024.

Here is the complete schedule for the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections:

• May 5 - August 19, 2024: Fulfillment of requirements for independent candidate support.

• August 24 - August 26, 2024: Announcement of candidate pair registrations.

• August 27 - August 29, 2024: Candidate pair registrations.

• August 27 - September 21, 2024: Verification of candidate requirements.

• September 22, 2024: Confirmation of candidate pairs.

• September 25 - November 23, 2024: Campaign period.

• November 27, 2024: Voting day.

• November 27 - December 16, 2024: Vote counting and result recapitulation.
