Indonesia’s Jojo and Ginting Kick Off Campaign at 2025 BWF World Championships

Jakarta. Indonesia’s top men’s singles players, Jonatan Christie and Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, are set to compete in the opening round of the 2025 BWF World Championships on Tuesday.

The prestigious tournament once again brings together the world’s elite players, with Indonesia fielding several top representatives aiming to capture the coveted title. The event officially kicks off on Aug. 26.

Among the big names, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and Jonatan Christie headline the men’s singles category. Ginting is scheduled to face France’s Toma Junior Popov in a crucial first-round clash, while Jonatan Christie will take on Germany’s Maximilian Kicklitz. Both matches are seen as key opportunities for Indonesia to secure its place in the hunt for the men’s singles crown.

In men’s doubles, Asian champions Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto, seeded fourth, will begin their campaign against Hong Kong’s Hung K. C. and Lui C. W. Fajar and Rian are expected to start the tournament strongly. Meanwhile, the young duo Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Marthin Maulana will face French pair Emile Adam and Lucas Rossi.

Indonesia also has representation in mixed doubles, with Rinov Rivaldy and Pitha Haningtyas Mentari set to play against Taiwan’s Lu M and Hung E T.

In women’s doubles, Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma and Amalia Cahaya Pratiwi will face Scotland’s Julie MacPherson and Ciara Torrance. In women’s singles, ninth seed Putri Kusuma Wardani is preparing for her opening match against Hong Kong’s Lo Sin Yan Happy.

In another men’s singles match, Alwi Farhan will take on Vietnam’s Nguyen Hai Dang in his opener. Matches are scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. local time (2:00 p.m.).
