Jakarta.  Most of the Indonesian citizens in various countries such as Malaysia, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Tokyo, and Chile have cast their votes in the 2024 elections as of Sunday.

"Reports indicate that the voting process abroad went well and smoothly, especially in Kuala Lumpur and Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. Alhamdulillah (praise God)," said the Chairman of the General Election Commission (KPU), Hasyim Asy'ari, after monitoring the voting process in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.

Hasyim warned that the vote count results, including quick counts or exit polls, should only be announced after the domestic voting has concluded on Feb. 14. Violations of these provisions are considered electoral crimes.

Indonesian badminton players currently participating in the 2024 Asia Team Badminton Championships in Malaysia were unable to exercise their voting rights in the 2024 elections. However, they express hope that the elected president will pay greater attention to sports development, especially badminton.

After training on Sunday morning at the Setia Badminton Academy, Setia Alam, Selangor, the Indonesian badminton team and their support staff headed to the overseas polling station (TPSLN) at the World Trade Center, Jalan Tun Ismail, Chow Kit, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. However, due to the crowded conditions, the team decided to forgo voting. This decision was made after discussions with players, coaches, and the support team, considering the crowded atmosphere and the team's tight training schedule.

Voting overseas took place earlier than the scheduled voting in Indonesia, which is set for Wednesday. However, the vote counting is conducted simultaneously with that in the country.

In Australia, actress Acha Septriasa expressed her enthusiasm for participating in the 2024 elections. She shared her experience after casting her vote at TPS 16 Sydney, Australia, on her social media account on Sunday.

"Democracy party in Sydney AU," Acha said while showcasing several photos of the atmosphere at her TPS, along with her husband Vicky Kharisma.

In a previous interview, Acha expressed her eagerness for the 2024 elections. She noted that political education in Indonesia has improved significantly, particularly among urban residents with better education.

Indonesian citizens in Santiago, Chile, have exercised their voting rights in the 2024 elections. In appreciation of their participation, the PPLN Santiago served Indonesian cuisine, Bakso, and provided souvenir mugs to voters.

"I express gratitude to the Indonesian community in Chile who have exercised their voting rights. Despite some being engaged over the weekend, their enthusiasm to come directly to the polling station in Santiago was not diminished," said the Overseas Election Committee (PPLN) Chairman in Santiago, Asri Wilanti in an official statement on Monday.

The election process in Tokyo also proceeded smoothly. PPLN Tokyo assured that the general election process was conducted with integrity.

"All the data we collected did not enter the Embassy as previously feared, but we have our address. We control it ourselves," said committee member Makmur Lubis.

The PPLN Islamabad in Pakistan arranged a bazaar and art performance on Feb. 10 to commemorate the 2024 elections. The event sought to spread joy within the Indonesian community, fostering unity despite political differences.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian diaspora in China, Kazakhstan, Taiwan, Madagascar, and Papua New Guinea are scheduled to vote on February 14, aligning with the elections in Indonesia.
