Indonesian Citizens Advised to Evacuate Lebanon as Conflict Escalates
Jakarta. The Foreign Affairs Ministry has recommended that Indonesian citizens consider leaving Lebanon amid the escalating conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
"Communication is continuously maintained to monitor the condition of Indonesian citizens. As of now, they are in good condition, calm, and safe," said Judha Nugraha, Director of Citizen Protection at the Ministry, on Tuesday.
According to data from the Indonesian Embassy in Beirut, there are 203 Indonesians residing in Lebanon, along with approximately 1,232 Indonesian military personnel serving in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
Indonesians are advised to remain vigilant and consider leaving Lebanon, as commercial flights are still operational.
For those in southern Lebanon, it is recommended to temporarily take shelter at the Indonesian Embassy's Safe House in Beirut.
"There are 14 Indonesians residing in southern Lebanon, and they have decided to stay in their homes as they feel the situation is still relatively safe," Judha added.
Indonesians facing emergency situations can contact the Indonesian Embassy hotline in Beirut at +961 7081 7310.
The Lebanese government has stated that it is making every effort to avoid an escalation of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah following the recent shooting in the Golan Heights.
The latest conflict began with a rocket attack in the Golan Heights that killed 12 people last weekend, an attack Israel claims was carried out by Hezbollah.
The Lebanese militia denies this claim. Several Israeli officials have stated that war with Lebanon is imminent.
The Israeli armed forces attacked several Hezbollah targets within Lebanon and in the southern part of the country on Sunday morning.
