Jakarta. Indonesia will bring home the body of its murdered embassy staff from Peru this week, according to a senior diplomat, amidst an ongoing investigation by the local police.

The death of the 40-year-old Zetro Leonardo Purba had shocked the country. Zetro was a chancery officer at the Indonesian Embassy in Lima. The police reported that Zetro had died Monday night after being shot thrice by an unidentified assailant while cycling near his apartment. The Indonesian Foreign Ministry’s spokesman Vahd Nabyl A Mulachela said Thursday that the police had begun collecting some evidence, including the CCTV footage, that could help identify the killer and their motive.

“We have already had the autopsy on Sep. 2 [Tuesday]. We hope that we can repatriate the body within this week,” Nabyl told reporters via a video statement.

Indonesia had penned a diplomatic note to the Peruvian Foreign Ministry to really pay attention to the case. The envoy added: “The police are also already coordinating with the local prosecutor’s office.”

There are currently many speculations to the case. Peruvian Interior Minister Carlos Malaver alleged that the attack was a contract killing, citing that the gunman did not steal anything from the victim. Deputy Foreign Minister Anis Matta had recently told the press that Zetro “had just withdrawn cash from the ATM, thus making it a possible robbery. But we are still waiting for the final report.”

Surveillance footage showed that an unidentified person approached Zetro while he was on his bike. The gunman fired twice at the Indonesian, who later fell onto the ground. The killer shot him a third time and immediately fled the scene on a motorbike driven by an accomplice. Zetro was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead.

Zetro was a father of three. The Indonesian government had promised to pay for their tuition fees until they graduate.
