Indonesia to Host Ocean Impact Summit in Bali
Jakarta. Indonesia will host the international Ocean Impact Summit (OIS) in Bali on June 8–9, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s maritime agenda following discussions at the 2026 World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.
Hendra Yusran Siry, special staff to the Marine Affairs and Fisheries Minister, said the summit will bring together thousands of participants from hundreds of countries, including heads of state, political leaders, and global CEOs. The event is a key opportunity to highlight the importance of oceans and freshwater under the “Blue Davos” theme, which stresses water ecosystems’ role in global stability, trade, food, and climate resilience.
“Through Blue Davos, water issues are recognized as a foundation for global sustainability,” Hendra explained. “Pressure on aquatic ecosystems is increasingly evident, from rising sea temperatures and flood risks affecting billions, to shrinking freshwater resources.”
While the economic value of aquatic ecosystems is significant, investment in the sector remains relatively low. The summit will focus on three main issues: freshwater management and access, blue food security, and ocean protection coupled with blue economy development.
“We also hope this will encourage greater investment in the blue economy,” Hendra added during a press briefing at the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries in Central Jakarta on Thursday.
The ministry plans to leverage the forum to strengthen blue economy diplomacy. Indonesia’s delegation will participate in several key agendas, including a forum on accelerating the blue economy that brings together government officials, research institutions, businesses, and global financial players.
In addition, the ministry will hold side events to introduce OIS as a platform for cross-border discussions involving science, private sector, and government stakeholders to explore both the impacts and opportunities in the maritime sector.
