Indonesia Maintains Clean Sheet with 2-0 Win Over Cambodia in AFF U-19 Championship
Surabaya. Indonesia secured their second consecutive win in the group stage of the U-19 ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) tournament, maintaining a clean sheet with a 2-0 victory over Cambodia in Surabaya on Saturday evening.
Despite numerous opportunities in the first half, the hosts struggled with composure and finishing. Cambodian goalkeeper Mat Lany delivered several brilliant saves, preventing Indonesia from asserting dominance early in front of the packed Bung Tomo Stadium.
After a goalless first half, defender Kadek Arel broke the deadlock with an excellent header from a Muhammad Kafiatur corner in the 71st minute.
All Indonesian substitutes rose from the bench to celebrate the much-needed opening goal.
Iqbal Gwijangge doubled the lead amid a chaotic Cambodian defense, capitalizing on a deflected ball right in front of the goal line to find the net easily, following another corner from Kafiatur just four minutes before the final whistle.
Indonesia now tops Group A with a perfect six points, following their 6-0 thrashing of the Philippines in the opening match earlier this week.
The Philippines defeated Timor Leste 2-0 at the same stadium earlier in the day, ranking second with a head-to-head advantage. Winless Cambodia is at the bottom of the group.
Indonesia will face Timor Leste on Tuesday after the match between Cambodia and the Philippines.
