Jakarta. The Indonesian government is still waiting for Peru’s official statement regarding the death of its embassy staff, although reports showed that police had caught five Venezuelans allegedly involved in the murder.

Earlier this month, Zetro Leonardo Purba -- an administrative staff at the Indonesian Embassy in Lima -- got shot to death when cycling near his home. Surveillance footage showed that the shooter also fled the scene with an accomplice who already had their motorbike ready. The state news agency Andina revealed that Peruvian authorities had detained five Venezuelans in connection with Zetro’s death. Asked about the latest developments, the Indonesian Foreign Ministry said Wednesday that they prefer to wait for an official statement from Lima.

“We are still waiting for the Peruvian police to give an official statement to our embassy in Lima. We have heard about the latest developments, but we want [every information] via a ‘single door’,” the  ministry’s spokesman Vahd Nabyl A Mulachela told the press. 

“By doing so, we want to give the Peruvian police and foreign ministry some time to deliver a comprehensive investigation results,” Nabyl said.

Indonesia already repatriated Zetro’s body for a funeral process in South Tangerang. The Peruvian police recently took five suspected members of the so-called Los Maleantes del Cono (“The Cone Thugs”) gang into custody in Lima’s San Martín de Porres district. Officers reported confiscating a loaded pistol, explosives, fuses, narcotics, 10 cellphones, and the motorcycle linked to the case. The police statement did not identify the detainees’ nationality or connect them directly to Zetro’s murder.
