Indonesia and Peru Celebrate 50 Years of Ties with New Economic Partnership Deal
Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening its long-standing relationship with Peru as the two nations celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties.
Prabowo made the pledge during a state visit by Peruvian President Dina Boluarte to the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday.
“This visit holds special meaning as tomorrow marks exactly 50 years of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Peru,” Prabowo said, expressing confidence that bilateral ties and cooperation can continue to grow.
“We share the same goal of advancing the prosperity of our people. We are both part of the Pacific community and among the group of developing nations,” he added.
This was the second meeting between the two leaders in nine months, following their discussions at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit in Lima in November 2024. Prabowo thanked Boluarte for the warm welcome he and his delegation received during that visit.
The visit will see the signing of the Indonesia-Peru Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which is expected to serve as a milestone in boosting bilateral trade, investment, and economic collaboration.
Accompanying Prabowo at the meeting were Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Foreign Minister Sugiono, Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman, and Trade Minister Budi Santoso.
