Hit-and-Run Case Ends with Confiscation of 130 Kgs of Marijuana
Asahan, North Sumatra. Residents chasing a car that fled after hitting a villager in Asahan regency, North Sumatra, made an unexpected discovery: 130 kilograms of dried marijuana inside the vehicle.
The incident occurred on Friday, and the police were immediately contacted to arrest the driver, who was identified only as Rohit. Officers confiscated four sacks containing dozens of smaller packs of marijuana found in the car's baggage area.
Rohit, a resident of Banda Aceh in Aceh province, said on Saturday that he was paid Rp 20 million ($1,237) to transport the marijuana and had left the provincial capital around midnight.
The trip would have spanned from Aceh at the northern tip of Sumatra Island to Lampung, the island's southernmost province. Lampung is just a two-hour ferry ride away from Java, the country's most populous island.
"I departed from Aceh at 12 o’clock heading to Lampung. My fee was Rp 20 million," Rohit said at the Asahan Police headquarters.
The police declined to comment further on the incident, as an active investigation into the suspected drug syndicate is underway.
