Jakarta. Indonesia grabbed its first gold medal at the 2025 Asian Youth Games in Bahrain as young athlete Furgon Habbil Winata emerged victorious in pencak silat.

Competing in the men’s 51–55 kg class, Furgon delivered a dominant performance from start to finish at Hall 1, Exhibition World Bahrain.

He stormed past Cambodia’s Daniel Phouk with an overwhelming 51–1 win in the semifinals before sealing the gold by defeating Bahrain’s Abdul Qassim 81–10 in the final.

“I’m beyond happy. It feels like a dream come true. All the hard work has finally paid off,” Furgon said on Tuesday.

Indonesia’s success didn’t stop there. Qiken Dwi Tata Olifia added a silver medal in the women’s division after falling short against the Philippines’ Kram Airam Carpio with a score of 33–19.

Earlier, Qiken displayed remarkable resilience in the semifinals, edging past Uzbekistan’s Feruza Bozorova after a 54–54 tie, advancing due to fewer fouls.

In the men’s 59–63 kg class, Uzbekistan’s Nurislom Ruziboev took gold after defeating Kyrgyzstan’s Temir Bikboev 46–16.

Indonesia’s Chef de Mission (CdM), Akbar Nasution, praised the achievement, saying the victories highlight the nation’s growing presence in Asian martial arts.

“This win proves that pencak silat is now gaining recognition across Asia. Our athletes have shown outstanding skill and dedication in making the country proud,” Akbar said.
