Eid Exodus: Jasa Marga’s Rest Areas Report Skyrocketing Visitors
Jakarta. Rest areas operated by the state-owned toll operator Jasa Marga are witnessing skyrocketing visitor numbers as many Indonesians across the archipelago are returning to their hometowns for the Eid holidays.
According to Jasa Marga Related Business’s president director Denny Abdurachman, some rest areas --such as those in KM 88A for the Cipularang Section, KM 207A for the Palikanci Section and KM 519A for the Solo-Ngawi Section-- saw significant increases.
"Visitor numbers rose by three or fourfold. In fact, the Travoy 519A rest area experienced an increase of up to 321 percent with an average of 11,571 vehicles per day," Denny was quoted as saying in a recent press statement.
Jasa Marga also implemented an “open-and-close” system for its rest areas, meaning it would close the facility for some time to avoid overcapacity. A similar system will be in place during the travel rush of returning travelers which is expected to start on Sunday, according to Denny.
There are now 599 toilet stalls available to accommodate the skyrocketing visitors. Jasa Marga has also assigned more cleaning service and security personnels to the rest areas. Visitors are advised to spend 30 minutes or so at the rest area to let other travelers in.
