East Java Police to Enhance Safety Measures at Bomb Storage After Explosion
Surabaya. The East Java Police have committed to strengthening safety protocols for explosive storage in the aftermath of an accidental explosion that left at least 10 personnel injured on Monday morning.
The explosion occurred at a warehouse belonging to the police's bomb disposal unit in Surabaya.
East Java Police Chief Insp. Gen. Imam Sugianto said his team will evaluate safety procedures for storing explosives to prevent any future incidents. The warehouse, constructed in 1951, may lack modern safety features, he added.
"We will renovate the facility to align with current explosive storage requirements," Sugianto stated. "Additionally, we are exploring the possibility of relocating the storage to a safer area, away from residential zones."
While the exact cause of the explosion is still under investigation, preliminary findings suggest that an increase in humidity levels within the storage facility triggered low explosive materials, according to sources.
