Densus 88 Arrests Suspected Terrorist in East Java
Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police's counterterrorism unit, Special Detachment 88 (Densus 88), arrested a suspected terrorist in Batu City, East Java, on Wednesday night.
The arrest was confirmed by Densus 88 spokesperson, Commissioner Aswin Siregar. "Yes, there was an arrest by D88 in Batu, Malang. One person was taken into custody," Aswin said on Thursday.
Aswin did not provide details about the suspect's network, initials, or evidence seized during the arrest. "A complete report will be released through the Police Public Relations Division," he added.
Currently, Densus 88 is conducting a crime scene investigation at the suspect's residence.
Batu Police Chief Rudi Kuswoyo also confirmed the arrest. "Last night, a suspected terrorist was arrested in Dusun Jeding," Rudi told reporters on Thursday.
Rudi mentioned that the Densus 88 team is currently searching the suspect's house but refrained from disclosing the suspect's identity. "We are only assisting in securing the location. For further details, please refer to Densus 88," he said.
In June, Densus 88 arrested a suspected terrorist identified by the initials AAR in Cikampek, Karawang Regency, West Java. AAR is allegedly affiliated with an Islamic State-supporting group.
According to police records, AAR is a repeat offender, having been previously convicted of terrorism-related offenses in 2011 and 2018. He was apprehended for planning a terror attack involving explosives.
