Jakarta. Indonesia's Antiterror Unit, Densus 88, has arrested seven individuals in connection with threats made against Pope Francis. The suspects, identified as HFP, LB, DF, FA, HS, ER, and RS, were apprehended in various locations, including Jakarta and Bangka Belitung, according to Densus 88 Spokesperson Aswin Siregar on Friday.

"Densus 88 has taken legal action against the seven perpetrators," Aswin told reporters.

The suspects are accused of making provocative and terror-related threats via social media, targeting Pope Francis' visit to Jakarta. These threats were made on the YouTube channel of the Komsos Conference of the Indonesian Bishops.

"There were narratives indicating plans for direct attacks during the Pope's events, as well as threats to burn venues during his visit," Aswin disclosed.

Pope Francis was warmly received during his visit to Indonesia, which concluded on Friday after a Mass attended by 100,000 people. His visit, part of an 11-day tour of Southeast Asia and Oceania, aimed to promote religious tolerance and unity. The Pope is now heading to Papua New Guinea for the next leg of his journey.
