Intan Jaya. An armed criminal group (KKB) launched an attack on the Homeyo Police Station in Pogapa Village, Homeyo District, Intan Jaya Regency, Papua, on Tuesday at around 07:40 a.m. Eastern Indonesia Time.

The attack resulted in the death of Alexsander Parapak, a 20-year-old civilian from Toraja, South Sulawesi. Parapak was fatally shot in the left chest, with the bullet penetrating his back and lower left armpit.

Bayu Suseno, Public Relations Officer of the Cartenz Peacekeeping Operations Task Force, confirmed the incident. He suspected that the attack was carried out by Keni Tipagau, leader of an armed criminal group from Kodap VIII Kemabu Intan Jaya.

"At first, gunfire was heard aimed at the residence of Second Police Inspector Tri Setyo and Second Police Inspector Bartholomeus at the Homeyo Police Station," Bayu said in a written statement on Tuesday.

Officers from the Homeyo Police Station returned fire in the direction of the attackers. Approximately six of them were observed fleeing towards the Inpres Pogapa Elementary School building.

"It was this KKB attack that resulted in the fatal shooting of Aleksander Parapak," Bayu explained.

Following the attack, Cartenz personnel pursued the attackers, but they have not yet been arrested.

"We strongly urge the community to participate in maintaining security in Intan Jaya Regency," Bayu concluded.
