Central Java Details Rapid Disaster Response Strategy at Regional Forum
Jakarta. Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi outlined his province’s quick-response disaster management approach, from prevention to recovery, at the Beritasatu Regional Forum 2025 themed “Empowering Regions, From Local to Global” hosted by B-Universe.
Luthfi said Central Java faces multiple natural hazards, including floods, landslides, and eruptions from Mount Merapi, but stressed that effective mitigation starts with prevention.
“We prioritize preventive efforts over emergency handling. One of the key steps is strengthening early warning education for communities,” Luthfi said at Hotel Mulia, Senayan, on Wednesday.
The province has also intensified human-resource preparedness through community-based initiatives. “We have established 140 disaster-responsive villages,” he said.
He added that the local government continues to build supporting facilities and infrastructure, noting that rapid action is essential when disasters strike. “When a disaster occurs, what matters most is swift response and handling,” he said.
Luthfi also described how emergency status is determined at the local level. “For example, when a disaster occurs in a district, the regent or mayor must immediately declare an emergency status,” he said.
