Aceh. PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk (BSI), together with BSI Maslahat, has mobilized an extensive emergency response to support communities affected by recent hydrometeorological disasters in Sumatra. The bank has distributed 78.7 tons of aid worth Rp12 billion, with most of the assistance directed to the hardest-hit areas in Aceh Province.

From the onset of the disaster, BSI and BSI Maslahat volunteers have been on the ground delivering logistics, assisting evacuations, and providing continuous support for survivors. The aid includes food supplies, medicines, hygiene kits, clothing, rubber boats, Starlink units, and satellite phones to strengthen communication and response coordination by local authorities.

According to Corporate Secretary Wisnu Sunandar, BSI remains committed to standing with communities in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra during this challenging period. He said the bank’s assistance is aimed at fulfilling urgent needs while enhancing the ability of local governments to manage their disaster response efforts.

BSI and BSI Maslahat have also collaborated with residents to set up community kitchens in Langsa and Bireuen and a health post in Kuala Simpang. The Langsa kitchen began operating on December 6, 2025, distributing around 2,000 meal packages daily to affected communities in Tamiang, Langsa, and Kuala Simpang. The location was chosen because it offers reliable access to clean water and supporting infrastructure, allowing for steady operations throughout the emergency response phase.

In addition to humanitarian support, BSI has taken swift steps to restore banking services in disaster-hit areas. Thirteen of the 23 districts in Aceh experienced disruptions, but by December 8, BSI had restored operational coverage in all of them, although several branches continued operating under limited conditions. As of December 11, 136 of the 145 BSI offices in Aceh were back in service, with operations supported by generators and Starlink connectivity. ATM services have also gradually improved, with more than half of the machines in Aceh already functional.

In the Medan region, all branches have resumed normal operations, and ATM availability is now above 90 percent. In West Sumatra, BSI’s branches and ATM network have been restored fully. In areas with severe impact such as Langsa and Kuala Simpang, critical branches including KCP Gampong Jawa, KCP Langsa Kota, KC Seumadam, and KCP Sungai Liput are now serving customers. To ensure cash availability for residents, BSI has deployed mobile cash vehicles to Tamiang while ATM repairs continue.

Throughout the past week, BSI employees have worked intensively to clear debris, restore electricity, and prepare branches for safe reopening. Wisnu said only nine offices remain in the final stages of restoration, and the bank is working to reopen them as soon as conditions permit.

BSI branch offices have also become crucial community hubs. With communication infrastructure still limited in some districts, residents have been using Starlink-powered WiFi at BSI offices to contact their families and charge their mobile phones at no cost.

To sustain operations in the most affected districts, BSI has assigned additional operational staff to assist local employees who are themselves recovering from the disaster’s impact on their homes. Through rapid action, strong coordination, and a commitment to humanitarian values, BSI continues to ensure essential aid, connectivity, and financial services reach the people of Sumatra when they need them most.
