Jakarta. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's approval rating remains high, reaching 77 percent, according to the latest survey conducted by Indikator Politik Indonesia (IPI).

Founder and Chief Researcher of IPI, Burhanuddin Muhtadi, said that approximately 76.5 percent of Indonesians are satisfied with Jokowi's performance during his two terms in office.

"The result is 76.5 percent, rounding it up to 77 percent, where our people feel very satisfied or quite satisfied, so it's quite significant," Burhanuddin said on the pollster's YouTube channel on Thursday.

According to Burhanuddin, the main reason people express satisfaction with Jokowi's performance is due to his significant distribution of social assistance (bansos) to the lower-income population.

Burhanuddin said there has been an increase in social protection funds by 12.4 percent in 2023 compared to the previous year.

"The second contributing factor is the construction of infrastructure, roads, bridges, dams, and others," said Burhanuddin.

Nevertheless, Burhanuddin pointed out that there are individuals who express discontent. The primary factors contributing to this dissatisfaction are the rising costs of essential goods and the uneven distribution of social assistance.

"In summary, these two factors, along with other issues concerning limited job opportunities and persistent poverty, although not diminishing, are predominantly influenced by the surge in commodity prices," he said.

The national survey, titled "Electoral Dynamics at the National Level and 13 Key Provinces" was conducted from Dec. 30, 2023, to Jan. 6, 2024. The survey population includes all Indonesian citizens eligible to vote in elections, those aged 17 or older and married.

The sampling was done using the multistage random sampling method, with a sample base of 1,200 people from all provinces proportionally distributed. An oversample was conducted in 13 provinces, namely Aceh, North Sumatra, South Sumatra, Lampung, DKI Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, Banten, Bali, East Nusa Tenggara, North Sulawesi, and South Sulawesi. Therefore, the total sample consists of 4,560 respondents.
