Bali Airport Operating Normally Despite Semeru Volcano Eruption in E. Java
Badung, Bali. Flights at Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport remain fully operational despite renewed volcanic activity at Mount Semeru in East Java, officials said on Thursday.
Mount Semeru, Indonesia’s tallest volcano, erupted on Wednesday afternoon, sending hot clouds as far as 7 kilometers from its summit. The eruption did not affect surrounding regions, including Bali, located across the Bali Strait to the east.
Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, said there were no disruptions to flight schedules, passenger movements, or airport operations.
“The eruption of Mount Semeru has no impact whatsoever on I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport,” he said on Thursday. “Passenger flow is normal, aircraft operations are normal, and there are no affected flights --arrivals or departures.”
He urged travelers to continue checking their flight schedules directly with airlines and to arrive at the airport ahead of time as a precaution.
As of Thursday, Semeru, standing 3,676 meters above sea level, continues to show signs of volcanic activity, though authorities say the situation remains localized and poses no threat to Bali’s airspace.
