Aussie Man Caught Spitting at Mosque Imam in Bandung
Jakarta. The Bandung Metropolitan Police arrested an Australian citizen on Saturday after he was caught on security camera spitting at the imam of Al-Muhajir Mosque in the West Java capital.
The suspect, identified only by the initials MB, was arrested at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang as he was awaiting a flight to Australia.
“He’s not fleeing. His flight was scheduled for today when his visa also expired,” Bandung Police Chief Budi Sartono was quoted by Kompas news website as saying.
“We picked him up at Soekarno-Hatta Airport and he is currently at the Bandung Metropolitan Police headquarters for an interrogation,” he added.
Police alleged that MB spat at Imam Basri Anwar on Friday after he got annoyed by the Koran recital amplified through the mosque’s speakers. Wearing a baseball cap, he entered the mosque and headed directly to the imam.
His action was caught by the security camera and soon it went viral on the internet.
The Australian citizen reportedly stayed at a hotel in front of the mosque.
