Jakarta. Presidential candidate Anies Baswedan addressed thousands of supporters at the Jakarta International Stadium to reassert his reform agenda and anti-establishment rhetoric in his final campaign rally on Saturday.

The stadium, constructed during his tenure as the governor of the capital city from 2017 to 2022, provided a fitting backdrop for Anies to connect with his supporters.

“Strong and honorable individuals like you have gathered here because we all demand change," Anies addressed the enthusiastic crowd. “We have witnessed injustice disrupting the journey of our Republic. Should we allow it to persist? It is our responsibility to end injustice and inequality and usher in positive changes.”

He commended the political parties supporting his candidacy for their courage and dedication to offering changes and reforms, despite the enduring popularity of President Joko Widodo.

Anies enjoys the backing of the National Democratic Party, the National Awakening Party (PKB), the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), and the election debutant Ummat Party. He described them as parties without vested interests or debts to the ruling government.

“These parties are managed by individuals who embody the spirit of change and never yield to pressure. They are not part of the troubled political establishment; instead, they are the true guardians of our democracy,” he said.

Joined by his running mate, Muhaimin Iskandar, Anies expressed confidence in winning the presidency and transforming Indonesia into a better nation.

“In my political journey, I have encountered many individuals committed to the well-being of their families. However, it is truly inspiring to meet those who prioritize doing good in politics over personal interests,” Anies said.

The choice of the stadium as the venue for his final campaign rally was deliberate. Anies said, “This facility is a masterpiece entirely built by the Indonesian people.”
