Jakarta. Jakarta prosecutors have confirmed the arrest of a key member in the campaign team of presidential candidate Anies Baswesan over accusations of tax fraud.

Nurindra Charismiadji, also known as Indra, was arrested Wednesday for alleged unpaid value-added taxes worth Rp 1.1 billion ($71,254) in 2019 and failing to produce his tax returns for two years, a senior prosecutor said.

Indra is a spokesman for the Anies campaign.

He was detained along with another suspect identified as Ike Andriani, said Mahfuddin Cakra Saputra, head of the intelligence unit at the East Jakarta Prosecutor’s Office.

Both have been named suspects since August but the arrests came only recently after their case was handed over to prosecutors by the police for trial, Mahfuddin said.

"Nurindra Charismiadji is being detained at the Cipinang Penitentiary while Ike Andriani is being held at the Pondok Bambu Penitentiary based on the arrest warrant issued by the prosecutor's office on December 27,” the prosecutor said.

Both the suspects have been charged under tax and money laundering laws.

Mahfuddin didn’t disclose the details regarding the connections between Indra and Ike.
