Lampung. A woman in Lampung province has filed a defamation case against her husband after he posted a video of his “divorce party” that went viral on social media.

Natalia Diah Ayuningtyas, 22, a resident of Pringsewu regency, visited the provincial police headquarters on Wednesday evening, demanding that her husband, Rian Maulana, be charged under the Electronic Information and Transaction Law for defaming her on social media.

Accompanied by her attorney, Natalia asserted that she is still married to Rian, and they have not officially divorced.

"Our marriage is only three months old, and our disagreement is just a trivial conflict that is part of the process of understanding each other," Natalia told reporters after filing the complaint.

She denied speculations that the conflict was triggered by adultery or extortion.

"There have been wild reports about me: some said I have committed adultery while others alleged that I extorted him for money. Those are lies," Natalia said.

She further claimed that the negative publicity had impacted her business, causing several projects to be canceled.

"This campaign has harmed me -- I’m currently jobless," Natalia said.

Lampung Police spokesperson Chief Commissioner Umi Fadilah Astutik said a team is assessing the case to determine whether it warrants an investigation. A defamation conviction carries a maximum sentence of four years in prison.

Umi confirmed that the accuser and the accused are still officially married.

“The video post depicts a divorce party while both the accuser and the accused are still married," Umi said. “We are reviewing the case to assess if it’s worth investigating.”

Natalia and Rian were married on March 3. Indonesian law prohibits divorce within the first six months of marriage.

Rian explained that the party, held on Sunday, was intended to apologize to his parents for marrying against their wishes.

“I didn’t listen to them and made a decision on my own, which proved to be incorrect. So I gathered family members for the party to have fun,” he said at his residence in Pringsewu on Wednesday.

He mentioned that he spent Rp 50 million (around $3,000) on the party, which included live music.

Rian claimed he did not expect his Instagram post to go viral beyond Pringsewu.
