12 Die after Bus Hits Roadside Barrier on West Java Highway
Purwakarta. At least 12 people died after a passenger bus collided with a roadside guardrail and overturned along the Cipali Toll Road in the West Java town of Purwakarta.
The accident also injured nine passengers, one of them was seriously injured, according to toll road operator Astra Tol Cipali.
The bus, carrying 20 passengers from Cirebon en route to Jakarta, met with the accident at 4:07 p.m. local time.
Chief Comr. Ibrahim Tompo, spokesman for the West Java Police, reported that the bus driver allegedly lost control while executing a left turn, leading to the collision with the roadside barrier and subsequent overturning.
Among the deceased were three men and nine women.
The identity of the driver, who survived the accident, has not been disclosed at this time.
The ill-fated bus was operated by the local land transport company PO Handoyo.
All the victims were taken to Radjak Hospital and Siloam Hospital in Purwakarta, about 110 kilometers southeast of Jakarta.
