Bandung. Former West Java governor Ridwan Kamil and his wife, Atalia Praratya, have agreed to separate amicably following an out-of-court mediation process, their respective lawyers said on Friday.

The agreement came after Atalia filed for divorce earlier this month. “After undergoing mediation, both parties have agreed to separate on good terms,” said Wenda Aluwi, Ridwan’s lawyer, at a press conference in Bandung.

Debi Agusfriansa, who represents Atalia, said the decision was made jointly and was not prompted by the involvement of a third party. “We reiterate that both parties agreed to separate amicably through a mutual decision. This has no connection to a third party, and both have agreed to co-parent their children,” Debi said.

Both legal teams urged the public to respect their clients’ privacy as the divorce process continues.

The specific reasons behind Atalia’s divorce filing on December 10 were not disclosed. Atalia is also a lawmaker from the Golkar Party.

In recent months, Ridwan has faced personal controversy, including allegations by a woman who claimed he had fathered her child. The issue drew public attention after Ridwan agreed to undergo a DNA test, which he said would demonstrate he was not the biological father.

Ridwan is also linked to an ongoing investigation into alleged corruption at West Java-owned lender Bank BJB during his tenure as governor. The developments followed his defeat in last year’s Jakarta gubernatorial election.

In May 2022, the couple suffered a personal tragedy when their adult eldest son, Emmeril Mumtadz, died after going missing while swimming in Switzerland’s Aare River. His body was recovered by authorities two weeks later.

Ridwan and Atalia continue to raise their biological daughter and an adopted son.
