Jakarta. The Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) for Arts, Culture, and Islamic Civilization, Jeje Zaenudin, has criticized musician Ahmad Dhani for reciting Surah Al-Fatihah with musical performance during a Dewa concert, calling it a violation of Sharia norms in artistic expression.

"I suspect his initial intention was good, wanting to recite Surah Al-Fatihah," Jeje Zaenudin said on Thursday, explaining that Dhani's recitation as an intro to the song "Kuldesak" contravened established norms.

"It is very regrettable; the setting, event, and manner contradict the dignity and sanctity of the Quran. Reciting Surah Al-Fatihah to the tune of a song and accompanied by music can be perceived as desecration and disrespect to the holy scripture," he added.

While MUI’s reprimand indicates disapproval, it has not resulted in formal legal action against Dhani.
