Man Sentenced to 3 Years in Prison for Distributing Private Video of Rebecca Klopper
Jakarta. A man was found guilty on Thursday of unlawfully distributing a private video featuring artist Rebecca Klopper engaging in sexual activities and sentenced to three years in prison.
Bayu Firlen was convicted under the Electronic Transaction and Information Law by the South Jakarta District Court during the sentencing hearing attended by the artist.
In addition to the prison term, Bayu was fined Rp 1 billion, with an alternative of facing an additional four months in prison if the fine is not paid.
Rebecca, 22, expressed her gratitude to the police, prosecutors, lawyers, and the court for delivering justice during the sentencing hearing.
Her attorney, Sandy Arifin, said the verdict should serve as a lesson against privacy breaches and the unlawful distribution of explicit content.
"I thank the police, prosecutors, my lawyers, and the court for bringing justice to the defendant," Rebecca told reporters at the courthouse.
During the trial, Bayu acknowledged his sentence, admitting to his role in distributing the private video for financial gain. The court documents reveal that Bayu uploaded the video to the internet, although his defense argued that he was not the first person to obtain the video.
The details of how Bayu acquired the video remain unclear due to closed-door hearings, consistent with Indonesian law concerning pornography cases. The trial began in November, and prosecutors had initially sought a four-year prison sentence.
