Jakarta. Indonesia has won a silver award for pavilion design at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan, earning global praise for its stunning architecture inspired by the traditional Phinisi sailing ship, a symbol of the archipelago’s rich maritime heritage. The recognition was announced ahead of the expo’s closing last weekend.

The Indonesian Pavilion became one of the most visited attractions during the six-month world exposition, drawing around 3.5 million visitors, or roughly 10 percent of total attendance at World Expo 2025.

Designed by architect Raden Bagus Diwangkoro, the pavilion’s form mirrors the graceful sails of a Phinisi ship, representing Indonesia’s enduring spirit as a maritime nation and an archipelago of cultural diversity.

“The design is not only iconic but also represents our national identity, a culture-rich nation with a vision for the future,” Raden Bagus told Beritasatu.com.

Visitors and critics alike lauded the pavilion’s blend of aesthetic elegance and deep symbolism, distinguishing it from other national exhibits.

According to Teguh Arianto, chairman of the Indonesian Institute of Architects (Jakarta chapter), guests were greeted by a replica of a tropical rainforest upon entering ,a vivid portrayal of Indonesia’s biodiversity. Inside, displays featured traditional masks, keris daggers, and handwoven textiles from across the archipelago.

One of the main highlights was a futuristic model of the new capital city, Nusantara (IKN), showcased through cutting-edge interactive visual technology. The pavilion also included a theater screening a film on Indonesia’s natural beauty and progress, starring actress Maudy Ayunda.

Beyond its cultural showcase, the Indonesian Pavilion also proved to be a platform for investment promotion, recording more than $28.4 billion (Rp 473 trillion) in investment commitments across sectors such as green economy, renewable energy, infrastructure, tourism, creative industries, trade, and human capital development.
