Jakarta. Indonesia has chosen Sore: Istri dari Masa Depan (Sore: Wife from the Future), a film by Yandy Laurens, as its official entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 98th Academy Awards, or the 2026 Oscars.

The sci-fi romance drama, produced by Cerita Films and starring Sheila Dara and Dion Wiyoko, was confirmed as Indonesia’s representative by the Indonesian Oscar Selection Committee following a plenary meeting, Variety reported on Monday.

The committee, convened annually by the Indonesian Film Producers Association (Aprofi), is tasked with choosing one film to compete for global recognition at the Oscars.

Adapted from Laurens’ 2017 web series, the film follows Jonathan (Dion), a photographer living in Croatia whose life is disrupted when Sore (Sheila), a woman from the future who claims to be his wife, suddenly appears. Her arrival sets off an emotional journey across time as both characters grapple with choices that could alter Jonathan’s fate.

Indonesia has submitted entries to the Oscars since 1987 but has yet to secure a nomination in the category formerly known as Best Foreign Language Film. Sore: Istri dari Masa Depan marks the country’s 27th submission.

The Oscar international feature shortlist will be announced on Dec. 16, 2025, with the final five nominees revealed on Jan. 22, 2026.
