Greater Jakarta LRT to Begin Implementing Normal Rates Tomorrow
Jakarta. Greater Jakarta’s light rail transit (LRT) train will begin implementing normal rates starting on Saturday, according to the Transportation Ministry.
The LRT connects Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, and Bekasi -- popularly known by its acronym Jabodebek. The LRT launched a promo in October 2023, which let passengers go on a ride at a lower price. The promo comes to an end today.
The normal tariff for the LRT will fall in the range of Rp 5,000 ($0.31) and Rp 20,000. Passengers pay up to Rp 20,000 on weekdays during rush hours (6 a.m. to 8.59 a.m.; 4 p.m. to 7.59 p.m.).
The maximum price will stand at Rp 10,000 if people ride the LRT outside those hours, including on weekends and public holidays. The fare will start at Rp 5,000 in the first kilometer for both rush hour and non-peak hour trips, gradually increasing by Rp 700 in the following kilometers until they reach the respective maximum tariffs.
During the promo season, the first kilometer is only priced at Rp 3,000 with a gradual increase of Rp 700 for every succeeding kilometer.
“We have made this decision because we see how enthusiastic people are to ride the Jabodebek LRT. As of May 28, the LRT has recorded over 11 million passengers since it began operating last August,” Risal Wasal, the director general for train transport, said.
