Jakarta. The Transportation Ministry has announced a 13 to 14 percent cut in domestic airfares for the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year travel period, following President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to maintain economic momentum and strengthen household spending in the second half of the year.

Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi said the fare reduction aims to make it easier for Indonesians to travel and reunite with their families during the holidays. “This decision shows the government’s commitment to easing the financial burden on people who want to celebrate Christmas and New Year,” Dudy said in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The discounted fares apply to economy-class domestic flights from December 22, 2025, to January 10, 2026, and tickets can be purchased starting October 22, 2025.

The policy is supported by a series of new regulations, including a ministerial decree cutting fuel surcharges, a finance ministry rule granting a 6 percent value-added tax subsidy for economy-class flights, and an aviation authority decision to halve airport service fees.

According to the Transport Ministry, the overall reduction comes from lower fuel surcharges, cheaper aviation fuel at 37 airports, and discounts on passenger service, landing, and parking fees.

“I thank all parties involved, from airlines and fuel suppliers to airport operators, for working together to make this possible,” Dudy said. “We want affordable travel for all while maintaining safety and service quality.”
