Dream Theater Invites Jokowi to Jakarta Concert
Jakarta. Dream Theater has invited avid rock fan President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to attend their upcoming concert in Jakarta.
The American progressive metal band is set to wrap up their Top of the World Tour in Ecopark Ancol, Jakarta, on May 12, 2023. And Dream Theater does not want Jokowi to miss out on all the fun. Dream Theater keyboardist Jordan Rudess said the band was well aware of Jokowi being into rock music.
“Everybody tells me. I have heard about it. I think the audience is very excited that the president is open about being interested in rock music. That is very cool and special,” Jordan told BTV host Pudja Lestari in a recent interview.
“I think he [President Jokowi] has already been invited [to the concert]. Yes, we are ahead of the game here in the Dream Theater camp,” Jordan said.

Jordan revealed why the group picked Indonesia as the last stop of their world tour. According to the keyboardist, there is something “very unique” about Indonesian fans.
“Not only are they really into it and supportive, but if you look at social media and engagement, Indonesian fans are probably the number one in the world of just being there and wanting to be part of it,” Jordan said.
“It is really a special relationship, which we really value. That’s the reason we keep on coming back and enjoying our relationship with the fans,” he added.

Last August, Dream Theater played at the Manahan Stadium in Surakarta, Central Java. Legendary Indonesian guitarist Dewa Budjana even kicked off the Surakarta concert with the national anthem "Indonesia Raya".
Dream Theater looks forward to more collaborations with Dewa as well as other Indonesian musicians in the future, according to Jordan.
“Dewa is amazing. We had such a great time and I hope to do that again,” the 66-year-old musician said.
“I’m always open to things. Especially nowadays with social media and being more aware of different artists in Indonesia and other countries, it is possible that there could be another collaboration.”
