London. Sunday’s Wimbledon final between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner marks the first time the same two men will contest the title at the All England Club immediately after facing off in the French Open final since Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal did so from 2006-2008.

It’s a fitting rematch, as world No. 1 Sinner and No. 2 Alcaraz have become each other’s primary competition on the men’s tour, with comparisons to the “Big Three” — Federer, Nadal, and Novak Djokovic — increasingly common.

It is too early to place Alcaraz or Sinner, both in their early 20s, in the same category as Federer, Nadal, or Djokovic, who have each won at least 20 Grand Slam titles. But as Djokovic put it: “We know they're the dominant force right now.”

Between them, Sinner and Alcaraz have won the past six major titles, a streak that will extend to seven on Sunday. Looking further back, they have claimed nine of the past 12 Grand Slams, with Djokovic winning the others. Alcaraz, 22, already has five major titles, while Sinner, 23, owns three.

Their combined age makes them the youngest pair of Wimbledon men’s finalists since Federer, nearly 25, faced 20-year-old Nadal in 2006.

“We are still really young,” Alcaraz said. “I just hope we keep doing the right things for the next five, 10 years, just to put our rivalry on the same table as those players.”

Alcaraz enters the final on a 24-match winning streak, including 20 consecutive victories at Wimbledon as he seeks a third straight title at the grass-court major. Sinner, meanwhile, is appearing in his fourth consecutive Grand Slam final, having won the US Open and the Australian Open.

“The anticipation for this final is big, is amazing,” Djokovic said.

The Alcaraz-Sinner rivalry has already delivered high drama. Last month, Alcaraz rallied from two sets down and saved three championship points before defeating Sinner in a five-set battle lasting 5 hours, 29 minutes in the French Open final, drawing immediate comparisons to Nadal’s classic five-set victory over Federer in the 2008 Wimbledon final.

“It’s good for the sport,” Sinner said of the rivalry. He added that his right elbow, injured during a fall in the French Open, will not affect him in Sunday’s final.

Their playing styles also mirror the contrasts seen in past great rivalries. Sinner is known for his clean, powerful groundstrokes and consistent precision, coupled with one of the tour’s most dangerous serves. Alcaraz, by contrast, thrives on creativity and versatility, capable of powerful baseline shots, quick net charges, and well-timed drop shots that disrupt opponents.

“They bring out the best in each other,” said Taylor Fritz, who lost to Alcaraz in the semifinals. “It’s going to come down to the big moments. They both generate a lot of raw power, but it’s more uncomfortable to play Carlos because of his unpredictability.”

As for whether Alcaraz’s win in Paris will affect Sunday’s outcome, Alcaraz believes Sinner has moved past it. Sinner said he took a few days to relax with family and friends before refocusing on his Wimbledon campaign.

“Let’s hope it’s another beautiful match played at a very high level,” Sinner said, “and may the best man win.”
