Jakarta. Indonesia’s box office has a new all-time No. 1. The comedy Agak Laen: Menyala Pantiku has become the country’s highest-grossing film of all time. As of Friday, the film had drawn 10,250,035 viewers nationwide, reaching the milestone just 36 days after its theatrical release.

Production house Imajinari announced the achievement in a celebratory Instagram post on Saturday. “Praise be to God. Agak Laen: Menyala Pantiku has officially broken the record and become the highest-grossing Indonesian film of all time,” the post read. Director Muhadkly Acho called the moment humbling and surreal, while stars Indra Jegel and Bene Dion expressed gratitude to audiences who watched the movie.

The numbers place Agak Laen: Menyala Pantiku ahead of local blockbusters Jumbo and KKN di Desa Penari, while also surpassing the Indonesian box office totals of Hollywood giants such as Avengers: Endgame and Avatar. The feat signals not only the popularity of the film’s four comic leads — Oki Rengga, Bene Dion, Indra Jegel, and Boris Bokir — but also a shift in audience appetite toward homegrown stories that blend humor with heart.

Produced by Imajinari and Trinity Entertainment, the film is the second sequel to Agak Laen (2024). While it reunites the same four stars, the story takes a fresh turn. This time, they play four bungling police detectives whose repeated failures leave them on the brink of dismissal. Each faces personal and financial struggles that raise the stakes of their final chance at redemption.

Ordered to solve the murder of a mayor’s child, the quartet embarks on an undercover mission that lands them in an unlikely setting: a nursing home. Bene and Jegel pose as caregivers, while Boris and Oki disguise themselves as elderly residents. Predictably, chaos follows. Personal conflicts collide with professional blunders, and what begins as a routine investigation soon unravels into a web of secrets involving a mysterious safe and a criminal hunt.

Beyond slapstick and sharp one-liners, Agak Laen: Menyala Pantiku weaves in themes of family, solidarity and warmth amid disorder — a mix that appears to have resonated deeply with Indonesian audiences. Supported by a strong ensemble cast that includes Tissa Biani, Jajang C. Noer, Jarwo Kwat, Ariyo Wahab and Surya Saputra, the film balances broad comedy with emotional payoff.
