Jakarta. An alleged gambler died after falling from the 29th floor of a North Jakarta apartment building during a police raid on an illegal casino over the weekend, a spokesman said on Tuesday.

At least 91 of the 133 people arrested in the Sunday afternoon raid have been named suspects.

Jakarta Police spokesman Senior Comr. Argo Yuwono said officers entered Tower A of the Robinson Apartment complex in Jalan Jembatan, Penjaringan, after receiving a tipoff.

"Our personnel went to the 29th floor to search for and arrest people who were gambling," Argo told reporters at the crime scene.

The suspects include gamblers, the operators of the establishment and their staff.

"After an investigation, we discovered that it had been operating for three days, with preparations having taken two months. Information provided by the suspects revealed that the owners used to make a profit of about Rp 700 million [$49,400] per day," the spokesman said.

A person believed to have been a patron fell from the 29th floor while trying to evade arrest, Argo said. The deceased has yet to be identified.

The syndicate, known as RBS 29, organized various forms of gambling, including baccarat, roulette, and dice and card games, he said.

Argo said seven suspects, identified by the initials Y.S., S.T., E.T., A.Y., H.M., R.M. and H.S., remained at large. They are believed to be the owners and financiers of the establishment.

Only selected guests, given secret access codes, were permitted to enter the floor, Argo said.

"The gamblers were not occupants of the apartment. There are no foreigners among those in custody," he said.

Dozens of green gambling tables could still be seen at the scene two days after the raid. Argo said more tables were provided for special guests in another room one level above.

An employee at the apartment complex, who only introduced himself as Wawan, 47, said he had not been aware of the gambling activities in the building prior to the raid.

"The floor was locked all the time, so we didn't know what people were doing inside. But yes, many people came to that floor, especially during the three days [before the raid]," he said.

Gambling is punishable by up to 10 years' imprisonment under Indonesia's Criminal Code.
