Weekly Market Update: IDX Drops 1.25%, Foreign Net Selling Reaches Rp 5.8 Trillion
Jakarta. The Indonesia Stock Exchange's (BEI) Composite Stock Price Index fell by 1.25 percent, closing at 7,137.088 on Friday, down from the previous week's 7,227.402.
From January 22 to 26, 2024, market capitalization decreased by 0.65 percent, dropping from Rp11,420.46 trillion ($721.22 billion) to Rp11,345.77 trillion at the end of the week. Meanwhile, the average daily stock transaction value increased by 6.84%, reaching Rp11.41 trillion compared to the previous week's Rp10.68 trillion.
The number of daily stock transactions dropped by 8.73 percent to 1,127,246 from the previous week's 1,235,025. The average daily stock trading volume also went down by 14.75 percent, reaching 15.56 billion shares compared to the previous week's 18.25 billion shares.
On Friday, foreign investors registered a net selling value of Rp1.05 trillion, bringing the year-to-date net value to Rp5.78 trillion.
According to NH Korindo Sekuritas Indonesia's (NHKSI) research, the index is testing a lower support level in its short-term sideways trend, indicating potential consolidation around 7,150, possibly dropping to the target range of 7,050-7,000. NHKSI recommends holding off on aggressive buying for now. Instead, consider reducing positions and be ready to buy when the index reaches strong support.
Throughout 2024, a total of eight issuances from seven issuers were recorded, amounting to Rp6.35 trillion. The total number of bond and sukuk issuances listed on the IDX now stands at 547, involving 128 issuers, with an outstanding value of Rp461.52 trillion and $32.362 million. State Securities (SBN) listed on the BEI include 186 series with a total value of Rp8,522.38 trillion and $502.10 million. Asset-Backed Securities (EBA) saw 10 issuances totaling Rp3.25 trillion.
Indonesia's investment realization in 2023 reached Rp 1,418.9 trillion, surpassing the target set by President Joko Widodo of Rp 1,400 trillion. Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) constituted Rp 744 trillion (52.4 percent), while Domestic Direct Investment accounted for Rp 674.9 trillion (47.6 percent). This achievement exceeded the investment realization in 2022, which stood at Rp 1,207.2 trillion, with 48.5 percent in Java and 51.5 percent outside Java.
Meanwhile, in the US, the S&P 500 closed slightly lower on Friday, but secured weekly gains supported by positive economic data. The S&P 500 dipped by 0.07 percent to 4,890.97, while the Nasdaq Composite slid 0.36 percent to 15,455.36. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.16 percent to 38,109.43, marking an all-time closing high. The S&P 500, Nasdaq Composite, and Dow Jones Industrial Average all recorded weekly gains of around 1.1 percent, 0.9 percent, and 0.7 percent, respectively, reaching more than 100 percent growth from their pandemic lows.
