Jakarta. Seven investors are planning to start the construction of their respective projects at Indonesia’s planned future capital of Nusantara next month.

According to Public Works Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, some of these upcoming projects are in the hotel and education sectors. The minister, however, did not say who the investors are. He also did not disclose how much the upcoming investments were worth.

“So we will witness the groundbreaking of new projects in the education, hotel, and property sectors. A sports center project will also begin its construction next month,” Basuki told the press after a meeting with the House of Representatives in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The upcoming round of groundbreaking will be the eighth of its kind. As many as 45 investors have held their respective groundbreaking ceremonies between the first and sixth groundbreaking phases.

The most recent groundbreaking took place on Aug. 12 -- just a few days before President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo celebrated Indonesia’s Independence Day ceremony at the new capital. The seventh groundbreaking phase saw four domestic investors, namely the private lender BCA, hotel giant Swiss-Belhotel, resource-based industrial group Royal Golden Eagle, and property giant Intiland.

Jokowi recently tasked the freshly appointed Investment Minister Rosan Roeslani to bring in foreign investors into the new capital.

“Because we are hoping that it is not just local investors that are taking part in the new capital project, but also foreign investors. Because of my business background, [the president had tasked me] to focus more on foreign investors as we have seen many domestic investors [in Nusantara],” Rosan said.
