Rosan Roeslani Takes Over as Investment Minister, Sets Sights on Immediate Priorities
Jakarta. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has appointed Rosan Roeslani as Indonesia’s new Investment Minister and Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), replacing Bahlil Lahadalia.
Previously the head of President-elect Prabowo Subianto’s campaign team, Rosan is set to take on the role for the final two months of the current administration. He expressed his intention to focus on implementing short-term programs during this period.
"In the remaining time, we will evaluate existing priorities. I might not be able to share much yet, as we need to sit down with the ministry team to identify and select key objectives that will significantly impact growth, the economy, and investment in Indonesia. The most important task is to ensure that announced investments are realized and implemented promptly," Rosan said on Monday.
Rosan plans to consult with the Investment Ministry and BKPM teams to determine which programs should be prioritized in the coming months. "Our goal is to focus on priorities that will accelerate key sectors and have a significant impact on Indonesia's economy," he added.
He also mentioned having communicated with President-elect Prabowo Subianto before his appointment.
During the transition from Jokowi to Prabowo’s administration, Rosan aims to attract as many investments as possible, both for the new capital city Nusantara and other regions. "My task is to seek and secure investments for the benefit of the Indonesian people wherever they may be," he concluded.
According to the 2023 asset report, Roeslani’s wealth is valued at Rp 860 billion ($55.18 million). The report, from when he was Deputy Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), listed his 26 properties across various locations, including Sumbawa, Manggarai, Lombok, and Jakarta, with a total value of Rp 511 billion.
Rosan, born in Jakarta on December 31, 1968, earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Oklahoma State University and an MBA from the European University, Belgium. In 2004, he co-founded Recapital Advisors, an investment firm specializing in private equity, financial advisory, and asset management.
He has held leadership positions in major Indonesian corporations, including President Director of Recapital Securities, Lativi Mediakarya (TV One), and Visi Media Asia (VIVA). He served as Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) from 2015 to 2020 and was appointed as Indonesia’s Ambassador to the United States in 2021.
