Prabowo Launches Electric Bus and Truck Assembly in Magelang
Magelang, Central Java. President Prabowo Subianto on Thursday inaugurated an electric bus and truck assembly facility operated by VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas in Magelang, marking a step forward in Indonesia’s push to expand its electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem.
The plant currently supplies electric fleets for TransJakarta and Suroboyo Bus, two of Indonesia’s largest urban transport systems.
Ahead of the ceremony, Prabowo toured the assembly line and inspected completed electric vehicles ready for delivery, in an event broadcast live by BTV.
He was welcomed by VKTR President Commissioner Anindya Bakrie, who reiterated the company’s commitment to supporting national vehicle electrification and reducing transport-related emissions.
“From the outset, VKTR has been driven by two key objectives: decarbonization to support the net-zero emissions target by 2060 or sooner, and strengthening economic self-reliance, including energy security, by reducing fuel imports,” Anindya said.
The assembly operation also involves partnerships with local manufacturers, including Tri Sakti, Laksana, and Tentrem, underscoring efforts to build a domestic EV supply chain.
Prabowo stressed the strategic importance of energy independence, particularly for a country of Indonesia’s scale.
“We realize that every nation must be self-reliant in critical sectors such as food and energy. If we are to remain truly independent, energy is one of the key areas we must secure,” he said.
During the visit, the president briefly tested a TransJakarta electric bus assembled by VKTR, sitting in the rear passenger section to assess comfort.
He was accompanied by Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
According to the company’s latest financial report, VKTR sold 69 electric vehicles in 2025, including 53 buses, 10 trucks, and 6 forklifts. Cumulative sales since operations began reached 135 electric buses, 24 trucks, and 13 forklifts.
The company reported revenue of Rp 1.1 trillion in 2025, up 8.5% year-on-year, driven by higher deliveries of electric buses and trucks as well as contributions from its automotive components business. Gross profit rose 10.4% to Rp 197 billion, supported by improved pricing and margins.
