Penajam Paser Utara. Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi estimates the Nusantara Airport in Indonesia's new capital Nusantara in East Kalimantan to be completed by July and ready for a trial run.

"Today, we see that the construction of the airport is progressing well. It is estimated to be completed for a trial run by July," said Minister Budi in Penajam Paser Utara on Wednesday.

Budi said that between January and July, construction work and preparations for operations will be undertaken. The minister said that the airport construction process would be expedited through the addition of equipment, extended working hours, and the resolution of land acquisition issues.

The Nusantara Airport is designed to support government activities in the new capital and enhance connectivity in the region. Situated 23 KM from the central point of Nusantara Capital and 120 km from Balikpapan, the airport features a terminal area of 7,350 square meters and a total airport area of 347 hectares. The runway is 3,000 meters long and 45 meters wide, capable of accommodating large-bodied aircraft such as Boeing 777-3000ER and Airbus A380.

After inspecting the airport, Budi also visited the future site of the Automated Rail Transit (ART) in Nusantara.

"The autonomous train will be deployed in the west and east axis regions. The partial operational use of some routes is targeted for August," stated Budi.

The construction of the ART route will be carried out in two phases. Each set of the train consists of two cars, with a total capacity of 324 passengers. The ART has an operational speed of 40 km/h and a maximum speed of 70 km/h.
