Badung. Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono highlighted several key accomplishments from the 10th World Water Forum (WWF), including the ministerial declaration and the initiation of 113 projects valued at $ 9.4 billion across various nations.

"Among these projects are initiatives aimed at expediting access to clean drinking water for 3 million households and domestic wastewater treatment projects benefiting 300,000 households in Indonesia," said Basuki Hadimuljono during a press briefing at the WWF Media Center in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Tuesday.

The fourth day of the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) witnessed the ratification of the ministerial declaration, with representatives from 106 countries and 27 international organizations in attendance.

Within this declaration, Indonesia emphasized three primary objectives, notably the establishment of a center of excellence dedicated to water and climate resilience. This center aims to enhance capacity, foster knowledge sharing, and optimize the use of advanced facilities.

As an archipelagic nation, Indonesia acknowledges its role in spearheading advancements in water and sanitation management.

"This center of excellence is not only intended for Indonesian citizens but also for countries within the South-South cooperation framework, and possibly the Asia-Pacific region," remarked Basuki.

Another focal point related to integrated water resources management, particularly addressing challenges prevalent in small islands. Despite being surrounded by vast bodies of water, Indonesia recognizes the necessity for robust water management systems to ensure the quality and accessibility of clean water.

Furthermore, Basuki underscored the proposal within the ministerial declaration for the establishment of World Lake Day. Lakes serve as vital water sources that sustain human life and contribute significantly to the socio-economic fabric of communities. The commemoration of World Lake Day represents a crucial step towards global efforts aimed at preserving these invaluable resources.
