Menarini's Indonesian Arm Expands Export Market to China
Cikarang. The Indonesian arm of the Italian pharmaceutical giant Menarini is currently expanding its export markets to China, its executive said on Thursday. Menarini Indria Laboratories officially expanded its Cikarang export manufacturing facility, enabling the company to meet the upcoming demand from China.
The Cikarang plant has launched the China-bound delivery of its scar care gel Dermatix. This delivery took place about two years after Menarini sent off its first consignment of Dermatix to South Korea -- a booming market for dermatological products.
Menarini Indonesia President Director Idham Hamzah told reporters that the company plans to export 700,000 units of the Cikarang-made Dermatix gel to China by the end of December.
“We have begun our exports to China starting this month, ahead of the original schedule of 2027," Idham said.
Idham did not disclose the expected China export for 2026, but he said he was confident that the company could send more than 700,000 units next year. Idham admitted that China was a tough market to gain access to.
“They have very high import standards, but we are able to meet their criteria. … But this is a new business, as we are still trying to get a grasp of the Chinese market. So, we can’t share the exact figure of the targeted export volume for 2027,” Idham remarked.
According to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesia’s non-oil and gas exports to China stood at $52.45 billion from January to October 2025. About 28.76 percent of those exports were iron and steel. China made up 23.51 percent of Indonesia’s total non-oil and gas exports, seconded by the US ($25.56 billion). Indonesia remained largely in the red with its deficit totaling $17.74 billion when doing business with China over the said period.
Menarini Indria Laboratories is the joint venture between the regional branch Menarini Asia-Pacific and Indria.
