JCI Opens Higher After Fed Cuts Benchmark Rate
Jakarta. Indonesia’s benchmark stock index opened slightly higher on Thursday, tracking mixed movements in global markets after the US Federal Reserve cut its benchmark rate by 25 basis points to a range of 3.75 – 4 percent, the second consecutive reduction, in a move to support the country’s weakening labor market.
Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) rose 10 points or 0.12 percent to 8,176 at the opening bell, with the day’s range seen between 8,150–8,185.
Trading volume reached 4 billion shares, worth Rp 1.8 trillion ($108.3 million), across more than 205,000 transactions within the first ten minutes. A total of 273 stocks advanced, 194 declined, and 181 remained flat.
According to Phintraco Sekuritas, market movement was supported not only by the Fed’s rate cut but also by positive domestic sentiment. This includes Bank Indonesia’s plan to reduce the minimum reserve requirement (GWM) for banks that swiftly lower lending rates, effective December 1, 2025. The brokerage added that expectations for an economic rebound in the fourth quarter of 2025, alongside a potential recovery in gold prices, are likely to boost investor confidence.
Investors are also awaiting key economic data from Europe. Germany’s October inflation is projected to cool to 2.2 percent year-on-year from 2.4 percent in September, while the Euro Area’s third-quarter GDP is expected to moderate to 1.2 percent from 1.5 percent in the previous quarter. The European Central Bank will meet this week, with analysts widely expecting it to maintain its benchmark rate at 2.15 percent.
On Wall Street, US stocks fluctuated near record highs on Wednesday after the Fed’s rate decision. The S&P 500 closed nearly flat, edging down less than 0.1 percent to 6,890.59, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 74 points or 0.2 percent and the Nasdaq Composite gained 0.5 percent.
Asian markets opened mixed on Thursday. Japan’s Nikkei lost 161 points (0.31 percent), while South Korea’s Kospi gained 23 points (0.56 percent). Hong Kong’s Hang Seng advanced 199 points (0.74 percent), and Shanghai’s SSE slipped 9 points (0.22 percent).
On a side note, Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) lifted trading suspensions on two stocks, Sunson Textile Manufacture (SSTM) and Berkah Prima Perkasa (BLUE), allowing investors to resume transactions in both the regular and cash markets starting Thursday’s first session.
