Jakarta Stocks Tick Up as OECD Predicts Stronger Growth for Indonesia
Jakarta. The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) closed slightly higher on Wednesday, gaining 1.3 points, or 0.02 percent, to 8,126.55, with a daily trading range of 8,077 to 8,169.
As many as 54.087 billion shares worth Rp 37.3 trillion exchanged hands. Of the total stocks traded, 243 advanced, 461 declined, and 100 remained unchanged.
Pilarmas Investindo Sekuritas said the market was mostly pressured by cautious signals from the US Federal Reserve, but received support from positive economic projections for Indonesia by the OECD.
“The global economy has been more resilient than expected in the first half of 2025, but risks remain due to rising trade barriers and ongoing geopolitical uncertainties,” Pilarmas said, citing the OECD Interim Economic Outlook.
Global growth is projected to ease slightly from 3.3 percent in 2024 to 3.2 percent in 2025 and further to 2.9 percent in 2026, while Indonesia’s growth is forecast at 4.9 percent for both 2025 and 2026. The government targets a 5.4 percent expansion this year, following a 5.12 percent growth in Q2.
Pilarmas added that US Fed Chair Jerome Powell’s cautious remarks on potential monetary easing weighed on investor sentiment. In a speech at the Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce, Powell stressed uncertainty around future rate cuts, citing inflation control and a weakening labor market as ongoing challenges.
On the regional front, Asian markets traded mixed on Wednesday following a drop on Wall Street. Japan’s Nikkei 225 recovered to close 0.3 percent higher at 45,612.77, while Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 slipped 0.9 percent to 8,764.50. South Korea’s Kospi fell 0.6 percent to 3,466.50. In contrast, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng and China’s Shanghai Composite rose 1.1 percent and 0.8 percent, respectively.
US stocks paused their recent rally, with the S&P 500 down 0.6 percent, the Dow Jones falling 88 points (0.2 percent), and the Nasdaq dropping 0.9 percent. Analysts said the pullback reflects concerns that US equities have become “too expensive, too fast” after three consecutive days of record highs.
